It started just like a normal night out. Except that we were in China. We, that is my Slovakian friend Matej and myself. And China that is Beijing to be precise. We had just successfully completed the Mongol Rally (literally one of the most stupid races on Earth) and were absolutely fucked up after driving 10,000 km, living on beans and vodka only.Nevertheless we ended up at a hostel with an indoor bar. Cycling in the fitness club this morning I could not help but imagine myself on a real bicycle. The sound was coming from underneath my tent. A constant squeaking. I checked my phone. No signal. Now I was even more freaked out. I tried to ignore it but it didn’t stop. It was too freezing cold and I was also too tired to go outside and check what it was. Since the noise did not stop I tried to stick something into my ears. Two teabags should do the trick. The squeaking was at a tolerable level now and eventually I passed out.It had been an exhausting and adventurous first day in Kongsvoll. Climbing about 2.000m with a 25kg backpack, losing that very same backpack due to an angry muskox bull and finally setting up my tent in the middle of a snowstorm. [Read more…]
